Master Class #106: Video Makes a PR Star

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million. Videos are an incredibly effective PR tool, and with social media, can be widely distributed easier than ever. Before you say "action," consider these few techniques to make your video soar.

First, keep it concise. Your audience is busy. They have things to do, places to be. If they see a 10 minute video, most of the time, they'll keep scrolling before they even click "play." Some videos, such as major announcements, require a longer run time, but if you can, make sure your video doesn't go longer than a few minutes.

Next, get a microphone. Even the most subtle of background noise can distract a viewer from what they are supposed to be listening to. To solve this problem, consider investing in a directional microphone to attach to your phone or camera. This minor adjustment will boost your video's audio and make sure every message is as clear as it can be.

Finally, utilize editing to keep your video flowing. No one wants to watch someone just standing in front of a brick wall and speaking. Go out and get some shots of different locations or events and roll them during periods of prolonged narration. Also, use transitions to keep your video visually interesting. As long as you don't overdo it, these basic editing techniques will make your content a feast for the eyes.

At Jaffe Communications, we're here to help you craft videos that leave an impact. From the writing to the recording to the editing, our team will help make your video engaging from "action" all the way to "cut."
