Master Class #57: How to Be a PR Rock Star

If you are awesome at the guitar, maybe you can be the next King of Rock.

But what would make you the next King of PR?

Pinpointing a single "best" PR skill is difficult. You really need to own a bunch of skills. Here are some that we look for at Jaffe:

  • Writing prowess: Crafting clear, concise, and engaging press releases, media pitches, and social media content. It’s crucial for conveying messages and captivating audiences.
  • Strategic storytelling: Shaping narratives that resonate with target groups and generate interest is essential.
  • Active listening: Understanding your client and their concerns allows for tailored communication and fosters trust.

And, beyond all that, you need to schmooze the heck out of people. Interpersonal skills are vital for building relationships with reporters, influencers, and the public. This involves:

  • Relationship building: Establishing rapport and fostering trust with media contacts.
  • Media relations: Understanding media landscapes, crafting compelling pitches, and effectively navigating media inquiries are crucial aspects.

And, always, always, always, call someone back the same day. Never let an email slip until morning. By then, it’s too late.

Yeah, it’s tough to be the PR King. But we believe it’s easier than mastering the guitar and hitting the road.
