How does Jaffe Publications work?
- Production costs are covered through advertising. Newspapers can be developed without affecting the municipal budget.
- All news is generated through the Newspaper editorial staff of professional writers and editors. All content is approved for publication by municipal officials.
- The Newspapers provide a reliable and steady communication source to the public, saving municipalities the expense of sending out other mailers (i.e. recycling schedules, registration forms)
- The Newspapers are professional newspapers and are an excellent representation of the communities they serve.
Who receives the newspaper? Is it free?
The newspaper is mailed to every household, business and post office in the zip codes comprising the municipality. The newspaper is free; all mailing costs are covered by Jaffe Publications.
How does Jaffe Publications work?
Jaffe Publications is responsible for all aspects of producing each Newspaper. That includes editorial, advertising sales and billing; layout and production, printing and mailing, as well as any other function relating to the production and distribution of the newspaper. As this is a cooperative relationship with each municipality to provide residents with relevant and useful public information, Jaffe Publications requires each community to assign a liaison to the newspaper to provide basic municipal information to our staff in a timely manner.
Is there a minimum term in which Jaffe Publications works with a municipality?
To develop a profitable newspaper, Jaffe Publications needs time to develop a list of ongoing advertisers who understand the benefit of a newspaper that reaches a concentrated customer base. Jaffe Publications requires municipalities to agree to at least one year of Newspapers; extensions are for two-year periods.
What are the financial requirements for a municipality?
The objective is for the Newspaper to not affect the municipal budget. However, it is a substantial cost for Jaffe Publications to write, publish, print and distribute issues of the newspaper to every mailing address in each town. To that end, we require each municipality to secure at least four pages of advertising at a discounted rate. Funding for these pages can come from many sources; Jaffe Publications is happy to share how other towns are able to accomplish this funding requirement outside of the municipal budget.
As Newspapers are an easy and cost-effective benefit for municipalities, what can local leaders do to ensure the newspaper succeeds in their town?
Help us make the newspaper great! Work with the editorial staff to provide story ideas that residents would be interested to read. Help our advertising department find potential advertisers who can help keep the newspaper sustainable. Approve articles in a timely basis to help us maintain deadlines. Provide photographs of interesting people, programs, and events. Respond to our requests for information in a timely basis. And, please understand that this is a true, two-way partnership to educate your constituents about the many programs and services available to them.
Can Newspapers succeed in any town?
No. Just as newspapers are based in areas rich in advertising opportunities, Jaffe Publications will not work in municipalities where there are limited opportunities. That is why Jaffe Publications only offers initial contract terms of one year. Town officials who truly embrace Jaffe Publications will be enormous resources for advertising opportunities and long-term success.
