OUR TAKE ON THE NEWS IN NEW JERSEY

BERKLEY - If someone told us two years ago that Ivanka Trump would be hanging out at the Bayville Fire Hall, we'd be looking at the sky for flying pigs. But you can catch her trucking down Route 9 this morning, for a 10:30 a.m. meeting with official, card-carrying "regular people" to talk about the Republican tax reform plan. Ivanka will remind us that her dad is all about the middle class and giving them the meaningful tax relief they deserve. Once the photographers get their shots, unclear - or, dare we say, doubtful - Ivanka will stick around for the fish fry and the 50/50. If Ivanka is interested in returning, perhaps to host a gala, the hall rents for $850 for five hours.

LITTLE EGG HARBOR - With chapters featuring such titillating titlesas "The clitoris and pleasure: What you should know," local parents are wondering if the magazine at the junior high school library is offering a little too much information about sex ed, the Asbury Park Press reports. The school board is now thinking about removing copies of the magazine, titled Sex, Etc., as some parents think it goes a little beyond what their little cherubs need to know at this moment in time.  Maybe the magazines should be placed behind the counter, just like at the local Quick Chek.

WAYNE - Should diners surcharge teens? Let's just assume they are terrible tippers, but some are questioning if the Wayne Hills Diner has gone too far by adding an 18 percent tip on any orders from kids. The diner argues that an influx of teens ties up the wait staff, who we assume are busy trying to serve customers who have more than $4 in their Velcro wallets. And the diner specifically states it can add an 18 percent tip at its discretion, NBC reports. Fine. But, listen kids, you have the ultimate discretion: deciding which business you should patronize to buy your chicken fingers and fries.

OUR TAKE ON THE NEWS IN NEW JERSEY

ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL - There's a new governor in town, and very soon New Jersey will be debating a very different agenda. Rather than the conservative policies of the last eight years, designed to appease Iowa corn farmers and, then, orange-faced Presidents, New Jersey will be welcoming a new era of progressive politics. Phil Murphy will be talking about legalizing marijuana, instituting a $15 an hour minimum wage, protecting undocumented immigrants, tightening gun control laws and fighting the Trump agenda. It's the type of agenda that sickens the traditional card-carrying Republican, now already contemplating who can possibly beat the Democrat in 2021.
